ASUS ROG Ally X – Power and Portability Perfected
Handheld gaming PCs have exploded in popularity, and ASUS just fired a major shot with the ROG Ally X. Building on the success of the original ROG Ally, this upgraded version focuses on fixing its biggest flaws — battery life and storage — while adding even more performance.
Bigger Battery, Longer Gaming
The ROG Ally X now packs a 60Wh battery — nearly double the capacity of the original model. That means up to 8 hours of light gaming or around 4–5 hours of demanding AAA titles, depending on settings.
Performance & Cooling
Powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, it’s still a beast for a handheld. But ASUS has also upgraded the cooling system with larger fans and redesigned vents, keeping performance consistent without the annoying thermal throttling.
More Storage & RAM
The base model now starts with 1TB of NVMe storage and 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM. That’s huge for running modern PC games without constant uninstalling, and it gives the Ally X more breathing room for future titles.
Design Tweaks
The shell is slightly thicker to fit the bigger battery, but ASUS has adjusted the grip ergonomics so it still feels great in hand. The button layout and sticks remain familiar, with Hall Effect joysticks to prevent drift issues over time.
Windows Gaming on the Go
Unlike the Steam Deck’s Linux-based SteamOS, the Ally X runs full Windows 11, meaning it can play Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic Games Store, and other PC platforms without workarounds.
Price & Availability
The ROG Ally X launches in August 2025 starting at $899. It’s positioned directly against the Steam Deck OLED and Lenovo Legion Go, but with a bigger battery advantage.
Final Take
With longer battery life, more storage, and refined ergonomics, the ROG Ally X fixes what fans wanted most. For gamers who want a true portable PC powerhouse, this might be the new gold standard.
Power in your backpack — the dream of portable PC gaming just got even better.
