Sony WF-1000XM6 Review – Still the King of ANC Earbuds in 2025?

After dominating the premium wireless earbud market for years, Sony is back with the WF-1000XM6. The competition in 2025 is fierce, with major improvements from Apple, Bose, and Samsung. So how does Sony’s latest hold up?

Design & Comfort

The XM6s are slightly smaller and lighter than the XM5s, with a more ergonomic fit. The matte finish helps avoid fingerprints, and they stay secure even during workouts. Sony’s updated foam tips now come in more sizes for a better seal.

Sound Quality

This is where Sony continues to shine. The XM6s deliver a balanced, clean sound with tight bass and crisp highs. LDAC support is back for high-res wireless audio, and DSEE Extreme boosts compressed tracks. Custom EQ is available in the app, making it easy to tailor your sound.

Noise Cancellation

Sony has improved ANC again, especially in mid-to-high frequencies. Wind reduction has been noticeably improved outdoors. While competitors like the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds have caught up, the XM6 still leads in overall noise isolation.

Battery Life

You get around 8 hours with ANC on, and up to 12 with it off. The case holds an additional 2.5 charges. It’s not class-leading anymore, but it’s still solid. Wireless charging and quick charge (1 hour from 5 mins) are supported.

Mic & Call Quality

Voice clarity is much better than older models. Sony has added AI-based noise reduction during calls, which works well even in cafés or windy conditions. Not perfect, but good enough for work and travel.

Features & App

Adaptive Sound Control, Speak-to-Chat, customizable touch controls, and multi-device pairing are all back. The app is polished and stable. Firmware updates continue to improve performance over time.

Any Downsides?

  • No support for aptX or aptX Lossless
  • Still a premium price—might not be worth it for casual users
  • Case is compact, but not ultra-pocketable

Final Verdict

The WF-1000XM6 continues Sony’s reign in the ANC earbud world. While competitors are closing in, Sony still holds the edge in sound quality, noise canceling, and features. If you’re willing to pay for the best, the XM6 delivers.
